Mango Languages keeps getting better and better. The Library’s provider of online foreign language courses has added four ancient languages to their offerings:
- Biblical Hebrew
- Ancient (Homeric & Classical) Greek
- Koine (New Testament Greek)
- Latin
-
-
Like Mango’s modern languages, the ancient courses use the same user-friendly methodology of listening and repetition and include helpful cultural notes throughout the instruction. According to Mango’s description, the courses “focus on passages from historical books, poems and religious documents, providing insight into the cultures in which the languages were spoken.”
- Biblical Hebrew: Genesis 1:1-5
- Ancient Greek: Iliad 1:1-5
- Koine Greek: John 1:1-5
- Latin: Opening of Caesar’s Commentaries on the Gallic War
-
One of the pleasures of exploring Mango’s ancient language series is hearing these great works read well by qualified scholars. So even if you absolutely can’t fit an ancient language into your schedule (hopefully because you are already learning a modern language through Mango!), take a few moments to enjoy the sound of the Bible, Homer, and Caesar in the original languages.
