A number of comments on the 2010 Customer Satisfaction Survey indicate that students spending long hours in the Library sometimes need immediate refueling. Here are some of the suggestions we received:
- Not having a drink and snack machine is a big problem.
- It would be wonderful to have more drinking fountains or perhaps a water bottle vending machine.
- Allowing some snacking at the carrels would be more convenient.

Don’t despair! There are some food and drink options available in the Library, even though we are not yet able to install the hoped-for café. While they are not immediately visible when you enter the front door of the Library, there are vending machines to the immediate left (outside the Central Enrollment Management office) with all the usual options, including some healthy choices such as bottled water and trail mix. A drinking fountain is located in the same area. Another drinking fountain is located on the second floor outside room 213. Although the coffee available near the Circulation desk is not exactly coffeehouse quality, some users claim that it’s the best coffee on campus. Give it a try, and decide for yourself! Hot chocolate and tea are also available from the same machine.
If you prefer, you may bring your own food and drinks to the Library. Beverages in spill-proof cups with lids may be enjoyed anywhere except at computer workstations, the AV room, Special Collections, and the Auditorium. “Messy” foods such as pizza and burgers may not be brought into the Library, but other foods may be eaten at the café tables in the exhibition area on the first floor (near the windows in the back).
There’s no need to go hungry during a long study session!
