Four library staff, Dorothy Hargett, Angela Masden, Pearl Combs, and Sara Baron, attended the Virginia Tidewater Consortium Library Summer Fun Day on July 22 at Christopher Newport University to hear George Needham, Vice President for Member Services at OCLC, discuss current trends in libraries. OCLC (Online Computer Library Center) is a library service and research organization dedicated to furthering access to the world’s information and reducing library costs. More than 71,000 libraries in 112 countries and territories around the world use OCLC to locate, acquire, catalog, lend, and preserve library materials.
At the July event over 50 library staff members from academic and public libraries across Hampton Roads attended. They also participated in a behind-the-scenes tour of the Mariner’s Museum Library, viewing original monographs, maps, hand-drawings, and seamen’s logs dating from the 18th century.
