Welcome to the first installment of a new regular feature on the Library blog. Deeper into Databases reprises a column that ran in Library Link during the 2005-2006 academic year. Approximately twice each month we will use this space to highlight and promote one of the Library’s online databases.
National Geographic Magazine Archive, 1888-1994
The Library has just purchased the National Geographic Magazine Archive, 1888-1994. Founded in 1888 in Washington, DC “for the increase and diffusion of geographical knowledge,” the National Geographic Society began publishing National Geographic Magazine in the same year. In the 124 years since its founding, no other publication has been so renowned for its coverage of cultures, nature, science, technology and the environment.
Regent users now have access to every cover, article, photograph, and map published by National Geographic from 1888 to 1994. Additional years will be added to the archive on an annual basis. The archive features an exceptionally intuitive, fully searchable database. To take the National Geographic Archive for a test-run, click here.
