Sara Baron to lead book discussion on Henri Nouwen

On Friday, March 16th, Library Dean Dr. Sara Baron will lead a book discussion of In the Name of Jesus: Reflections on Christian Leadership, by Henri Nouwen. Nouwen (1932-1996) was a Dutch-born Roman Catholic priest and the author of more than 40 books on spirituality.

In In the Name of Jesus (1989), Fr. Nouwen illuminates the nature of authentic Christian leadership through a close reading of two events in the Gospels: the temptation of Christ by the devil and Christ’s restoration of Peter after the Resurrection.

The Library Book Club chose In the Name of Jesus as its March selection to coincide with Lent. The word Lent comes from the Middle English lente, meaning simply “springtime.” Lent, the season of preparation for Easter is supposed to be a “spiritual springtime.” For anyone wishing to read a spiritual book this Lent, In the Name of Jesus would make an excellent choice. The book is deep with spiritual insight, yet only 81 pages and can be read in one sitting.

The discussion of In the Name of Jesus will take place at 12:00 PM in the Library Conference Room. The Library currently has several copies of the book. Click here to check for availability. For a free excerpt, please contact Harold Henkel at 352-4198 or harohen@regent.edu.
